004 – Majorca… A short stay in a Spanish Island

My wife and I had the opportunity of a 3 day week-end in Majorca. We took it, as a spanish island seemed like a good way to get away from the grey sky of Brussels, enjoy Mediterranean coastal views, and yes, our hopes were high on swimming in the sea. Spoiler : nope- way too cold at this time of the year (and we did not see anyone else in the water!).
We decided to stay on the northern side of the Island, and just pay some visits to Palma, the main city. It was a good choice, as the Deia area, and the harbor of Soller was wonderful to stay in and relax. It also offered a relatively easy access to the formentor cape which I did not want to miss.
Beeing there off season was a good thing as the island gets really crowded ohterwise. Traffic restrictions at formentor were not in place, and we could leisurely stroll everywhere in a quiet setting.
We saw this trip as an opportunity to unwind and instead of running everywhere, we decided to take our time and concentrate more on northwest area.
We started with a few delicacies on the way to Deia, slept well, and the next morning, took the train to Palma, walking around and getting a taste of the city.
Palma is home to Miro’s museum and workplace. Amazing visit.
The village of Deia was a pleasure to visit.
Outside of town, some pretty walks.
At first, go down to the beach…
Then walk through olive fields, to enjoy spectacular coastal views.
And of course, a great sunset…
Next morning, it was time for another fix of sunrise photography. For that matter, I chose to drive to the Cape Formentor area. Not the easiest drive at night, but well worth the effort…
And then the sun was up….
After this glorious sunrise, we drove around the island to find other beaches and landscapes, then came back for dinner on the port of Soller. What a day.
Before going home, still enough time to walk a bit around Palma before flying…
As usual, More pics from this post here.
